William P. Collatos Joins Stimson Center Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, DC — The Stimson Center today announced that William P. Collatos was unanimously elected to the Board of Directors at its fall meeting.

Collatos is a business executive with more than 30 years of experience in private equity investment, largely in the information technology industry. He co-founded the growth equity firm Spectrum Equity Management, Inc. Collatos has a long history of nonprofit and philanthropic leadership, having served on numerous for-profit and nonprofit Boards. His nonprofit service includes the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.
“The Stimson Center is doing cutting-edge work to address a wide range of threats to international security, shared prosperity, and justice,” Collatos said. “I am particularly excited about Stimson’s unique approach to policy innovation: Matching academic rigor with practical problem solving and on-the-ground experience. They’re taking good ideas and putting them to work in the real world.”
As the governing body of the Stimson Center, the Board of Directors is responsible for oversight of all activities, ensuring sound financial and managerial practices, and protecting the integrity of the institution, its reputation, and projects.

William P. Collatos
William “Bill” Collatos cofounded Spectrum Equity Management Inc., and until recently served as Managing Director. Spectrum is a growth equity firm that invests in businesses related to the information economy.
Bill has been in an executive capacity as a director or Board Member of over 30 for-profit and not-for-profit entities. Some examples include: Nassau Broadcasting Partners, L.P., RCN Telecom Services, Inc., CBSI, Cable, RiskMetrics Group, LLC, Intersections Insurance Services, Inc., Patriot Media, Puerto Rico Cable Acquisition Company Inc., Seisint, Inc., Eutelsat Communications S.A., and Experian Health, Inc., the Roxbury Latin School, Emmanuel College, and the Winsor school, among others.
He was previously a General Partner at TA Associates and Media/Communications Partners (MC Partners). Bill began his career as a Banker, lending money to startups, eventually heading the Media Lending Group at FleetBoston Financial Corp.
Bill also has a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector, including board service with the Home for Little Wanderers, and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation as head of the investment committee. He currently serves as an advisory board member of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and has recently joined the Board of Emmanuel College.
Bill holds an A.B. degree in Economics, cum laude, from Harvard College.
