General Atomics Reveals Sparrowhawk Airborne Launch and Recovery Demonstrator Aircraft
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA – ASI) has revealed its new Sparrowhawk airborne launch and recovery demonstrator aircraft.
GA-ASI said that it will conduct flight tests of the new air-launched and air-recoverable aircraft this week to to demonstrate avionics systems and autonomy engine.
The rendering unveiled by the company showed small aircraft powered by two propellers which can be launched from GA-ASI’s larger drone like the MQ-9B SkyGuardian. According to the rendering, the mother drone will be capable of carrying four Sparrowhawk demonstrators.

A earlier report on FlightGlobal revealed the Sparrowhawk aircraft as an attritable “jet-powered” unmanned air vehicle (UAV). The rendering released at the time showed an aircraft of different design.
